Yeah in Photoshop I can adjust brightness and contrast.
And I have seen a lot photo's on dA.. but I never ask how they made the picture, so that's a really good idea!!

Just had a quick peek through your gallery and you have some nice start up work.

With your black and white work try getting a computer program which allows you to adjust brightness and contrast. Doing small tweaks this way can really add power to your photos.


Also bear in mind there are a lot of photogrpahers on DA, which is botha blessing and a curse. It is a curse because it will be hard to standout so try experimenting a little either with subject matter like "things in places that you would not expect" or you can experiment with filters and camera adjustments like shutter speed. Messing around will help you work out what works and what doesn and experimenting around can also be very fun.

Also take advantage that there are many photographers on here. Ask around for advice. If you see a piece of work you like done by some one else say how much you like it and ask how they did it. This will help you with your own work but it will also allow you to make contacts on DA.
